One of our streetwear clients ran a five-day sale. It brought in about $71,000 and 300 orders, and nearly $20,000 of that came from SMS. I want to walk through what that tells you, because the lesson is not "text more people."
The numbers
- About $71,000 in sales over five days.
- 300 orders. That works out to a bit over $230 per order.
- Nearly $20,000 from SMS, roughly a quarter of the total.
The rest came from email, ads and the people who were already coming to the store. That is the point. No single channel did it. They worked together.
Why SMS did so much in a short window
A sale with a deadline is what SMS is built for. People read texts fast, and "ends tonight" is hard to ignore. The key is that SMS only worked this well because the audience had asked to hear from the brand. A list people want to be on will act. A list people tolerate will not.
What makes a short sale work
- A real reason. A launch, a restock or a real deadline. People can tell when urgency is fake.
- A warm audience first. The email and SMS lists were already built before the sale started. You cannot build a list during the sale.
- Creative that looks like the brand. Streetwear customers notice when something feels off. Branded emails, texts and ads get more attention.
- Every channel pointing the same way. The ad, the email and the text all said the same thing, at the right times.
- A store that can take the traffic. A site that is slow or confusing on day one kills a good sale.
What I would take from this
If you want a result like this, start months before the sale, not the week of it. Grow the list, get the brand looking right and set up the flows. Then the sale is just the moment you pull the trigger. Results vary by brand, product and audience, and I will not promise yours will match this one.
Quick answers
Can any Shopify brand get these results from a sale?
No. Results depend on the product, the audience, the list size and the offer. The pattern holds, though: a warm list, strong creative and a clear deadline.
How big does my SMS list need to be?
There is no magic number. A smaller list that wants to hear from you often beats a large one that does not. Start collecting consent early.
